Feb 21st: Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland Annual Wine and Cheese Event

Wine and Cheese With the belief that philanthropy and giving back are good for the soul, Edge has a tradition of supporting local causes. There are so many worthy organizations in our community. But, here at Edge, we have a warm place in our hearts for do-gooders, especially those who are doing good things for kids. For that reason, we are proud to put our support behind the Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland and, in particular, their annual Showcase of Wine and Cheese fundraising event. Some really fantastic people have benefited from the Boys and Girls Clubs since its inception over 100 years ago. Did you know that Shaquille O’Neal, Denzel Washington, Shaun White and General Wesley Clark were all influenced by their childhood participation in their local Boys and Girls Club? In 2012 alone, nearly 4 million children and teens were impacted by Boys and Girls Club programs. boys and girls running and jumping The Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland offers kids a safe and fun place to be when they are not in school. Their affordable after-school care and summer programs provide quality, challenging programs. The adult volunteers are there to care and guide kids while providing positive role models in responsible citizenship. Enabling young people to reach their full potential is part of the Club’s mission. They offer programs from homework assistance to arts and crafts to college and career preparation to sports leagues. But, as is the case with many outstanding organizations, they can’t do all of this without support. On February 21st, the 11th annual Boys and Girls Clubs Wine and Cheese event will take place at the Oregon Convention Center. This is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland. Local winemakers will be serving up samples with dozens of gourmet cheeses and specialty food items. A complementary wine glass and tasting book are included in admission. And, as if that wasn’t enough to make your night amazing, there will also be a silent auction, raffles and live music! Wine, cheese, food, music AND prizes? Bliss. Oh, and don’t worry, you can get tickets at the door. If you have to miss this great event, maybe you can become a volunteer. Who wouldn’t benefit from caring for and mentoring our future leaders? Besides, it is a good way to fill up your “feel good” tank. All that do-gooding – it might even be better than wine and cheese.
