Ever wonder what goes into building fancy displays at showrooms or offices? Well, we can tell you! It involves a lot of care, sweat, coffee, finishing nails, coffee and a little bit of blood — at least in our case, anyway.
Over the past few years Edge Multimedia's interior design services team has been tapped to create quite a few unique displays, and we’ve just completed one for our client, Share Vancouver. Share recently moved into its new Share Fromhold Service Center facility, and they wanted to do something special to recognize the donors who made the dream of a new service center a reality, as well as show how far their reach extends to help those suffering from hunger and homelessness in the greater Vancouver area.
Former Washington State Representative Bill Fromhold was integral in making this new service center a reality and Share really wanted to show their appreciation to him and his family. He lost his fight with an aggressive form of leukemia in 2010, but his legacy of helping the hungry and homeless lives on here. Along with its logo, Share asked us to incorporate a quote from Fromhold in the entry way that encompassed his selflessness as he served the public for the greater good.
With the new Share building being a former bowling alley, we wanted to incorporate a background of re-purposed wood paneling that resembled lanes. On top of the re-purposed wood we added acrylic frames that house a tribute to former Washington State Representative Bill Fromhold and a thank you to all the donors, committee members and volunteers that made the purchase of the Share Fromhold center happen. We put a lot of time and energy into this display so those who tirelessly put in time and effort would feel appreciated. During the install, Dan, one of our partners and head of creative, cut his thumb snapping the last acrylic piece into place, hence the bit about blood above. We really gave this design project our all.
"It involves a lot of care, sweat, coffee, finishing nails, coffee and a little bit of blood — at least in our case, anyway."
Across from this display we also affixed more acrylic frames to the wall. These frames housed pictures of the many men, women, children and families that Share helps. These people are the reason Share exists.
We also had a cork board map created that was an outline of the Vancouver/Clark County area of Washington state. On this map we created push pins that show the spread of what Share does in its community. Each pushpin represents a drop off site, a backpack program site, or one of Share’s community outreach centers. We thought this would be a unique way to show Share’s locations and reach. Share really has a great impact on the community.
Arguably one of our favorite parts of this project was designing and stocking the kids’ playroom. All of us at Edge have a strong affinity for the children in our community and the desire to see them cared for. We loved being able to provide toys, books and even chalkboard decals on the wall for kids who may not often get the opportunity to play in a safe environment. We also designed vinyl decals for the windows that depicts kids playing outside on a beautiful day — happy childhood moments.
What makes this project a huge success is that we were able to meet client expectations, design and install each element within three months and increase awareness of the work that this great organization does in its community. We are excited to partner with Share as they continue providing services to the hungry and homeless in the greater Clark County area.
